This trek in the Annapurna foothills to the viewpoint on Poon Hill offers all the best of trekking in Nepal. Enjoy trekking in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs, Magars dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peak of Machhapuchhare (FishTail Peak) dominating the skyline.
At the climax of this trek you will climb Poon Hill at dawn to enjoy one of the most spectacular mountain scapes on Earth. As the sun touches the snow-capped summits the Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna (8,091m) along with a maze of other peaks, slowly begin to appear, like magic, before our eyes.
A rewarding trek that can be enjoyed by every lover of nature and beautiful landscape. An easy trek, which takes you up to an elevation of 3195 meter at Poon Hill, can also be combined as an extension trip to a cultural tour of Kathmandu & Pokhara.
The trip can be done throughout the year except during monsoon (July & August).
Itinerary:
Day 01: Kathmandu
On arrival at Tirbhuvan International Airport , you will be met by GTE representative and transferred to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Welcome dinner with typical Nepali Cultural show. O/N at Hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu-Pokhara
A after breakfast fly to Pokhara, it takes around 25 Minutes. And drive to Nayapul by car (New bridge), and trek to Tikhe Dhunga. We take an hour drive to Nayapul; and then commence our trek to Birethanti, a large and prosperous town besides the Modi River . We head up the main trail to Sudami where we climb gradually up the side of the valley, reaching Hile (1495m) before pushing on to Tirkhe Dhunga. From here the trail crosses a stream and then ascends a steep stone staircase to the large Magar village at Ulleri (2070m).
Day 03: Trek to Ghorepani
this is a pleasant walking day today. We trek through rhododendron and oak forests and across streams before making a short, final climb to Nangethanti. From Nangethanti we head up to Ghorepani (2850m).
Day 04: Ghorepani - Poon Hill – Tadapani
we get up very early and start an hour hiking to Poon Hill (3195m). A brilliant spectacle, this vantage point provides an unobstructed view of sunrise over the high Himalayas . After spending about 40 minutes on the hillside, we come back to Ghorepani, have a hot breakfast, and start walking to Tadapani. From Ghorepani the trail climbs along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2960m). We descend to reach Banthanti, then wind our way to Tadapani (2540m).
Day 05: Trekking to Ghandruk
this is an easy day with short down hill. From Tadapani the trail descends steeply through forests and then the trail eases as we reach Ghandrunk. Ghandruk is a village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal , has their own dialect, culture, costume, and life style. Ghandruk is one of the famous destinations of trekkers for its beautiful mountain views and easy reach from Pokhara or Kathmandu .
Day 06: Trek to Birethanti – Naya Pul; then drive to Pokhara
From Ghandrung it's an easy walking all down hill to Nayapul, and drive to Pokhara. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara.
Day 07: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu .
After breakfast fly back to kathmandu transfer to hotel then half-day kathmandu city sightseeing and free leisure time. Over night at hotel.
Day 08: Departure transfer to airport for onward flight.
