Itinerary

Day 1Kathmandu to Kyirong (2700m)

Depart from the Ghale Treks office at 6:00 AM. Travel to Nagdhunga and follow the Trishuli River north to Galchi. Continue on to Kyrong, covering a distance of 140 km, and complete the necessary immigration formalities. After crossing the border and completing Chinese immigration, you will meet our Tibetan guide. Proceed with a 70 km drive to Kyirong, where you will spend the night in a guest house.

Day 2Kyirong (2700m)

Take time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 3Kyirong to Saga (4600m)

Embark on a drive across Lalung La (5,200 m), where you’ll be treated to stunning views. Pass by Peiku-Tso, a beautiful turquoise lake, with the majestic Shishapangma (8,027 m) in the background. Continue along the trail by the Brahmaputra River and arrive in Saga after traveling 295 km, where you will stay overnight in a hotel or guest house.

Day 4Saga to Manasarovar (5200m)

After an early breakfast, set out on a 9-10 hour drive to Manasarovar, watching Jeeps and trucks navigate the wide valley, flanked by rivers and grazing yaks and sheep. Cross the Mayumla Pass, where rocky peaks and sand dunes highlight Tibet’s arid beauty. Depending on the season, you may meet nomads and shopkeepers in traditional attire, offering supplies and warm tea. Upon reaching the revered Mansarovar Lake, you’ll see the historic Chiu Monastery on the northwest shore while catching a glimpse of the majestic Mount Kailash. Overnight accommodations will be in a guest house.

Day 5Manasarovar to Darchen (4560m)

Explore the breathtaking Mansarovar, the highest freshwater lake renowned for its turquoise color, as well as its abundant fish and graceful swans. Take in the stunning views of the sacred Kailash Parbat, Mt. Gurula-Mandata, and Lake Rishikesh in the backdrop. Afterward, enjoy a one-hour drive to Darchen, where you will spend the night at Chu Gumba.

 

Day 6Darchen to Dirapuk (4900m)

Start your trek early in the morning after breakfast, meeting your team of yaks and Tibetan yak drivers who will support you during the kora. As you trek through the lush meadows and scenic streams of Lha Chu Valley, enjoy breathtaking views of the turquoise river cascading through a narrow canyon surrounded by steep cliffs. Along the way, you’ll catch sight of the iconic north face of Kailash and approach the 13th-century Dira-Puk Monastery, a significant stop considered a blessing on your journey. Conclude the day’s adventure by camping at Dira-Puk or resting in a guest house.

Day 7Dirapuk to Zutul-Puk (4790m)

Turn towards Drolma Chu Valley, bidding farewell to Lha Chu Valley as you ascend to Drolma La, the highest point of your journey at 5630m. At the summit, revel in breathtaking views of Thukpe Dzingbu Lake, the Lake of Compassion, where prayer flags flutter in the wind. Descend to the flat fields of Zutul-Puk, home to a fascinating monastery and intriguing caves. Explore the meditation caves, including Milarepa’s cave, which features distinct footprints and elbow prints. Day 8Zutulpuk to Darchen to Saga

Day 9Saga to Kyirong

Cross the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra River) by ferry, then embark on a scenic drive of 220 km to Kyirong, where breathtaking views of Shishapangma (8027m) rise majestically against a vast, flat plain. Arrive in Kyirong at an elevation of 1850 meters and settle in for the night in a cozy guest house, ready to rejuvenate for the next day’s adventures.

Day 10Kyirong to Kathmandu (1400m)

Cruise down to the border town of Rasuwagadi, perched on the Nepalese border, where you will bid farewell to your Tibetan guide and driver. From there, hike down to the Nepalese Immigration Control to complete the necessary re-entry formalities. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to Kathmandu, which will take 7 to 8 hours depending on road and weather conditions, allowing you to soak in the beautiful landscape as you journey back to the vibrant capital.

Note: This is a private group trip and can accommodate groups of 1 to 5 participants. Pricing is based on the entire group, so if you are traveling alone, you will need to book at the group rate. To ensure a smooth experience, we kindly request that you make your booking at least two weeks prior to the trip start date. This allows us sufficient time to obtain the necessary Tibet Travel Permit and Group Travel Chinese Visa. Please note that once the Tibet Travel Permit is issued, we will also need to secure your Chinese Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Therefore, it is essential for you to arrive in Kathmandu at least one week before the trip with your passport in hand.
