On Day 6, your official trek to Dhamus Peak begins with an early departure from the village following a hearty breakfast. The day’s journey involves a steep trail leading to a suspension bridge over the Muri Khola, which you will cross before ascending along a path lined with dense bamboo and rhododendron forests. Once you arrive, you will stay overnight at a tea house, enjoying the serene surroundings.
Leaving Boghara, you will hike towards Dobang, situated at 2520m, trekking along the banks of the Marsayangdi Khola. On day 9, prepare for a challenging 5-6 hour hike from Italian Base Camp to Glacier Camp, located at 4,200m above sea level, where you may experience altitude sickness. The day begins with a cup of coffee to fuel your journey, as trekkers will navigate slippery, icy glacier trails and traverse through the moraine leading to Chhonbardan Gorge. Glacier Camp sits at a significant elevation between Dhaulagiri Base Camp and Italian Camp, offering breathtaking views and a sense of achievement. Tonight, you will camp in tents at Glacier Camp, surrounded by the stunning beauty of the high mountains.
Acclimatization is crucial for a smooth trekking experience, particularly at higher altitudes where the air becomes thinner. To aid this process, you’ll have a full day of acclimatization at Glacier Camp. During this break, you can take a short hike around the camp to help prepare for the upcoming journey to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. After exploring the beautiful surroundings, you’ll return to your tented camp for meals and much-needed rest, ensuring you’re refreshed for the next leg of your adventure.
Today marks a challenging leg of your journey as you embark on a five-hour hike to Dhaulagiri Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 4,748m. Upon reaching the Dhaulagiri Base Camp, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of majestic peaks, including Dhaulagiri V (7,618m), Dhaulagiri II (7,751m), and Dhaulagiri III (7,715m), as well as the prominent icefall cascading from the col between Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak (6,848m). After a rewarding day, you’ll settle into your tented camp at Dhaulagiri Base Camp for the night.
After resting at the tented camp in Dhauligiri Base Camp, you will embark on a hike to Hidden Valley, which sits at an elevation of 5,180m. As you navigate the glacier moraine, you’ll also catch glimpses of Thapa Peak (6,012m), Dhaulagiri I, and Sechi Lek (5,981m), along with majestic vistas of Mukut Himal (5,970m). After enjoying the scenery, you will ascend via an icy route into Hidden Valley, a recently discovered, expansive mountain valley concealed behind Dhaulagiri. You will conclude the day by spending the night at a tented camp in this serene valley.
After a night in Hidden Valley, trekkers will rise early to witness the sunrise illuminating the mountain peaks as they embark on a 5-6 hour trek to Dhampus Peak base camp at an elevation of 5,400m. The route is adorned with alpine vegetation and offers impressive views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, culminating in the ascent through the Dhampus Pass at 5,258m. As you navigate over icy terrain, you’ll gradually make your way to the high camp. Upon arrival, you can relax and take in the stunning vistas that surround you before settling in for the night at a tented camp in the Dhampus Peak base camp.
Day 14 is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial step in preparing for the summit of Dhampus Peak the following day. Trekkers will take this day to rest and explore the surrounding areas of the base camp while also organizing and checking all necessary gear and equipment for the climb. This time at the tented campsite of Dhampus Peak base camp will ensure that everyone is well-prepared and acclimatized for the upcoming ascent.
After 14 days of trekking, today marks the long-awaited summit of Dhampus Peak, standing tall at 6,012m. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Annapurna massif, Tilicho Peak (7,134m), Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri (8,167m), and Tukuche Peak (6,920m), among other stunning peaks. After soaking in the incredible scenery, you’ll descend to Yak Kharka at 4,018m, your final stay at a tented camp. Named for the yaks that once grazed the area, you’ll likely encounter many of these magnificent animals during your time here.
After a rewarding peak climbing experience, you will begin your descent on the 16th day, trekking from Yak Kharka to Marpha, which is situated at a more manageable elevation of 2,670m. This leg of the journey is relatively easy compared to previous days and takes you to the picturesque, stone-lined village of Marpha in the Mustang District of Nepal. For those interested in extending their adventure, there is an option to stay in Pokhara and join another expedition to the Annapurna region, such as Annapurna Base Camp, for an additional cost. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy the vibrant nightlife that the city has to offer, marking a lively conclusion to your trekking experience.
Today’s itinerary promises an enriching experience as we embark on a city tour of the enchanting cities of Bhaktapur, Patan, and Kathmandu. Trekkers will travel in a private vehicle to explore UNESCO World Heritage sites that highlight the region’s rich cultural history. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to indulge in a food tour, sampling local delicacies, including Newari and Thakali cuisine. Don’t forget to pick up some souvenirs for your loved ones back home. In the evening, we will gather for a memorable farewell dinner accompanied by a cultural show, celebrating the day’s adventures.
