Trip FAQs
GET HELP (HELP CENTER)

Frequently asked questions.

What documents do I need for the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek, and how are they arranged?

Essential documents include your passport, Dhaulagiri Conservation Area Permit, and TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) Card. Ghale Treks will handle all the arrangements for these documents, ensuring they are prepared and issued before your trip departure. You won’t have to worry about obtaining these permits separately.

What are the weather conditions like during the trek, and how should I prepare?

Weather in the Dhaulagiri region varies significantly depending on the season. The best trekking seasons are typically from late March to May (spring) and late September to November (autumn). During these times, daytime temperatures can range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), while nights can drop below zero at higher altitudes. It’s crucial to pack layers to accommodate varying temperatures and potential rainfall, as well as to be prepared for colder conditions at higher elevations.

What kind of food is available on the trek, and are there options for dietary restrictions?

Meals during the trek generally consist of traditional Nepali fare, including dal (lentils), bhat (rice), and tarkari (vegetables). Most tea houses offer a range of options including Western-style meals and vegetarian dishes. If you have specific dietary restrictions (such as gluten-free or vegan), inform Ghale Treks ahead of your trip, and they will do their best to accommodate your needs along the route.

What should I know about high altitude sickness, insurance recommendations, and emergency assistance?

High altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), can occur above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet). Symptoms include headaches, nausea, and dizziness. To mitigate the risk, it’s vital to acclimatize properly and communicate any symptoms to your guide. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical emergencies, and helicopter evacuation if needed. Ghale Treks will provide emergency assistance protocols and ensure that you have access to professional medical support on the trek.

What accommodation options are available during the trek, and what about drinking water sources?

Accommodation during the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek typically consists of tea houses or lodges, which provide basic but comfortable facilities, including shared bathrooms. The quality may vary, but Ghale Treks selects suitable accommodations based on comfort and service. As for drinking water, it is essential to ensure water safety; safe options include bottled water, boiled water, or using purification tablets for water sourced from streams and rivers. Always consult your guide about the best drinking water sources during the trek for your health and safety.
