Trip FAQs
GET HELP (HELP CENTER)

Frequently asked questions.

Is Island Peak Climbing hard to accomplish?

Island Peak Climbing is generally considered easier than many other peaks in the region; however, summiting requires a solid understanding of climbing techniques and gear. This expedition is suited for advanced beginners rather than complete novices. With proper guidance and training, you can successfully reach the summit.

How are the routes?

The routes for Island Peak Climbing share similarities with the Everest Base Camp trek, featuring well-maintained paths that are frequently used. However, after Dingboche, the trails become more remote as you approach Island Peak Base Camp. Expect rockier terrain and steeper ascents as the climb progresses.

Do I need to carry an oxygen cylinder during the expedition?

Oxygen cylinders are not typically required for the climb, as the altitude does not reach levels where air pressure becomes critically low. Nevertheless, for safety reasons, the team will carry oxygen cylinders in case of emergencies.

What are the chances of me getting altitude sickness?

As you ascend to higher altitudes, particularly above 6000 meters, the risk of altitude sickness increases, so it’s essential to prioritize your health through a proper diet and acclimatization. Avoiding alcohol and smoking can also help mitigate the risk. If symptoms do arise, altitude sickness medications are available to alleviate discomfort.

What happens in case of emergencies during the trek?

In the event of an emergency, you will be swiftly airlifted to the nearest hospital by helicopter, with costs covered by your travel insurance.

Do I need previous climbing experience to summit Island Peak?

While prior climbing experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. The expedition is suitable for trekkers with a good level of fitness and a willingness to learn basic climbing techniques.

Is travel insurance required for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation is mandatory for all participants. Be sure to review the policy carefully.

What type of accommodation can we expect during the expedition?

Accommodation will primarily be in teahouses along the trekking route, providing essential comforts. On the summit night, participants will use camping facilities.

Who will I be climbing with during the Island Peak Expedition?

When you embark on the Island Peak Expedition with Ghale Treks, you will enjoy a private climbing experience tailored specifically to your needs and preferences. Your journey will be guided solely by one of our experienced local instructors or Sherpa climbing leaders, each with a proven record of multiple successful summits of Island Peak, and many having also reached the summit of Mt. Everest. Your guide will not only ensure your safety and well-being throughout the trek, but they will also provide valuable training and climbing tips, including a pre-summit briefing at base camp designed to prepare you for the ascent.
