Alternatively, you may opt for a quick flight (available at an additional cost), allowing you to reach Pokhara in just 20 minutes. This option not only saves travel time but also grants you an extra day to explore the city and engage in various adventure activities. Whether you choose to dine at your hotel or by the scenic Lakeside of Pokhara, a comfortable overnight stay awaits you.
Exploring the Magnificent Himalayas: A Trek to Tilicho Peak, Nilgiri, and Annapurna Range
After a hearty breakfast, we embark on an exhilarating trek through the breathtaking Himalayas, starting in Jomsom and following a straightforward route along the Kali Gandaki Riverbank. The expansive valley can get quite windy after midday, so we pace ourselves as we make our way to Kagbeni, an ancient settlement rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture, where two rivers converge in a picturesque juncture. As you reach this crossroads, choose your path wisely: the right leads to Muktinath, while the left takes you towards Upper Mustang. No matter your choice, you’ll find solace and comfort at a lodge for a restful night amidst these stunning landscapes.
Exploring the Restricted Region: A Trek from Kagbeni to Chele
As we venture into a restricted region, obtaining a trekking permit is essential for our journey from Kagbeni, a site of religious significance for Hindu devotees. Our adventure primarily follows the road, leading us through the stunning Kali Gandaki River gorge, where we can admire breathtaking landscapes. We’ll make a stop at Chhusang for lunch to recharge before continuing onward to Chele, deepening our exploration of this remarkable area.
From Chele to Syanbochen: A Scenic Trek via Chungsi Cave
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we embark on a scenic trek from Chele to Samar, a journey that takes about three hours, so be sure to have an early lunch before setting off again. Our route leads us to the enchanting Chungsi Cave, a stunning natural wonder, although the trekking trail is slightly longer than usual—so it’s wise to pack dry nuts, energy bars, and plenty of water for the trek. As we progress, the breathtaking landscapes, the allure of the cave, and the majestic views of Mount Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri will leave us in awe. With a total trekking time of approximately 7 hours, we will rest well upon reaching Syanbochen for an overnight stay.
After a hearty breakfast in Syanbochen, we limber up our muscles and set off toward Jhaite village, traversing breathtaking landscapes that fuel our determination. Our trek ascends to the Nyi La Pass, reaching an impressive 4,010 meters above sea level, where the thin air is compensated by stunning views. Following this, we descend to the Ghyami La Pass at 3,765 meters before continuing down to Ghami village. A highlight of our journey is the longest Mani wall in Ghami, adorned with intricately carved stones inscribed with sacred mantras, which creates a serene spiritual atmosphere. We’ll spend the night at a guesthouse, resting and rejuvenating for the adventures that lie ahead.
Begin your day with breakfast at the Guest House in Ghami before setting off through a picturesque valley, where you’ll encounter a striking red cliff. Be attentive as you approach the crossroads, where the Suspension Bridge awaits; remember not to turn left from Ghami, as that route leads to Dhakmar. Keep an eye out for Blue sheep along the way, adding to the wildlife experience. The trek to Tsarang (Charang) takes approximately 4 hours, after which you can enjoy lunch and set up camp. Spend the afternoon exploring the historical monastery before settling in for the night at the Tsarang (Charang) Guest House.
As we enjoy a delicious breakfast, excitement fills the air for our destination today: the stone-walled town of Lo-Manthang. There’s no urgency in our pace; we have plenty of time to walk as we embark on a gradual descent across the river, enjoying the stunning vistas that exemplify Upper Mustang’s rich cultural heritage. On the opposite side, the impressive cliffside caves add to the enchanting landscape. As we ascend, Lo-Manthang emerges, a cultural gem nestled just across the stream. We continue along the track until we step into the magnificent village itself, where our overnight stay at the hotel awaits.
The ancient town of Lo-Manthang has remained isolated for thousands of years, shaped by Tibetan societies that lend its culture and lifestyle a distinctive charm. Today, we’ll set out on an exploration of this captivating stone-walled town. Its narrow alleyways beckon us to wander, offering opportunities to spin prayer wheels and connect with the local spirituality. The fluttering prayer flags above mud-brick houses, as well as the serene environments of Namgyal Monastery and Gulup Monastery, enhance our experience. During our day tour, we’ll also visit the Tibetan border at Korola and the Chooser cave. Don’t forget that the Tiji Festival, a unique celebration recognized worldwide, takes place in May, offering a vibrant glimpse into the local culture.
What a remarkable memory it is! After a hearty breakfast, we say goodbye to the vibrant town of Lo Manthang and set off along the dusty trail, ready to face the potential sandstorms that can whip up in the area. Our journey leads us across several breathtaking passes, beginning with the Chogo La Pass at 4,280 meters, followed by the Dhi La Pass at 3,950 meters, and finally, the Mui La Pass. Along the way, we encounter the Ghar Monastery, a stunning sight that invites us to pause and appreciate its beauty before we continue our trek to Drakmar, where we will rest for the night at the lodge.
After enjoying breakfast at Drakmar, we carefully pack our belongings and begin our journey, our footsteps echoing as we ascend the trail to the ridge summit. From this stunning viewpoint, we are greeted by the sight of alpine fields of barley and buckwheat, glowing in the golden sunlight—an absolutely breathtaking panorama. As we proceed, the path shifts to a sandier terrain, a striking contrast to the smoother trails we encountered near Ghiling in the Upper Mustang Hidden Valley. Undeterred, we forge ahead, eager to bask in the natural beauty that envelops us. As night falls, we find comfort in a cozy lodge, taking a moment to reflect on the day’s adventures.
Setting off on our trek from Ghiling after a hearty breakfast, we follow a winding trail through the charming village of Syangbochen, with the path gradually ascending to reveal breathtaking vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys. Continuing our journey, we cross a small pass atop the hill ridges, where the rugged landscape comes into view. Soon, the quaint village of Chele emerges on the horizon, characterized by its whitewashed houses and fluttering prayer flags, as we approach a narrow gorge of sandy rock that tests our footsteps. Pressing on, we finally reach Chhuksang, where a cozy hotel awaits weary trekkers, providing a welcoming place to rest and recharge for the next leg of our adventure.
As the morning sun bathes Chhusang in its golden glow, we gather for a hearty breakfast to fuel ourselves for the exciting day ahead, destined for Jomsom—the gateway to the mystical Mustang region. The adventure takes an intriguing turn as we face a choice between two distinct paths. The Sacred Route leads towards Muktinath, a revered site for Hindu pilgrims, where sacred shrines and fluttering prayer flags immerse us in a world of ancient devotion and spirituality. Alternatively, we can embark on the Kagbeni Adventure, exploring the hidden gem of Kagbeni, with its red sandstone cliffs and ancient architecture, before continuing along the Kali Gandaki River toward Jomsom. As dusk falls, we arrive in Jomsom, a bustling trading hub at 2,720 meters above sea level, where a cozy hotel awaits to cradle weary trekkers. Under a starry sky, we reflect on the choices of the day—the spiritual and the mysterious—and prepare for what tomorrow’s journey may bring, driven by our curiosity and the call of the mountains.
