Nepal Domestic Flights

Baggage regulations are strictly enforced in Nepal to ensure aircraft safety, particularly on mountain airstrips.

• Standard Routes (Pokhara/Chitwan): Usually allow 20kg to 25kg of checked luggage and 5kg of hand carry.

• Mountain Sectors (Lukla/Jomsom): Strictly limited to 15kg total (10kg checked + 5kg carry-on).

• Excess Baggage: Additional weight is subject to a fee (approx. $1.50 – $2.00 per kg) and is subject to space availability on the aircraft.

• Trekkers’ Tip: We recommend packing essentials in your carry-on. For bulky trekking gear, Ghale Treks can arrange dedicated porterage or cargo services upon request.

• Base Fare: The standard cost of travel.

• Fuel Surcharge: Subject to market fluctuations (included in our final quotes).

• Government Taxes: Including VAT and mandatory airport passenger service charges.

Note: When booking through Ghale Treks, all mandatory taxes are included in your initial quote – ensuring no hidden financial surprises at the airport.

Navigating Nepal’s traffic requires strategic planning. We provide several transit options to ensure you arrive on time:

• Private Hotel Transfers: The most reliable option. We provide air-conditioned vehicles and professional drivers.

• Pre-booked Taxis: Recommended for independent travelers; travel times from Thamel to the airport average 30–45 minutes.

• Buffer Time: We advise departing for the airport at least 2 hours before departure during peak hours due to Kathmandu’s unpredictable traffic.

• Reporting Time: Please arrive at the Domestic Terminal 1.5 to 2 hours prior to departure.

• Documentation: Foreign nationals must present an original Passport to enter the terminal and check in.

• The Boarding Process: After security screening, proceed to the boarding gate. Boarding typically commences 30 minutes before take-off.

• Remote Arrivals: At smaller airstrips (like Lukla), baggage collection is often handled manually near the aircraft.

• Manthali (Ramechhap) Operations: During peak trekking seasons (March–May and October–November), Lukla flights may be redirected to depart from Manthali Airport to manage Kathmandu air traffic.
• Weather Flexibility: Mountain flights are subject to Visual Flight Rules (VFR). We recommend booking a “buffer day” before your international departure to account for weather-related delays.
